Research

For nearly 40 years, the New Jersey Marine Sciences Consortium has conducted independent research to address coastal issues, develop marine technology, formulate science-based policy, and improve science literacy. NJMSC research plays an integral part in helping New Jersey sustain its $50 billion coastal economy and quality of life.

To leverage funding, and get the most from available dollars, the NJMSC brokers and manages research partnerships among academe, federal and state government, and the private sector. The Consortium also manages the New Jersey Sea Grant College Program a federally funded program that has awarded more than $22 million in competitive grants to scientists engaged in coastal ecosystem health, biotechnology, and fisheries and aquaculture research. The findings of Sea Grant studies are put to practical uses by New Jersey Sea Grant Extension Agents and Specialists.
